Lullabys , Legends And Lies
Gather ' round fellas , I 'll tell you some tales
About murder and blueberry pies ring
And heroes and hells and bottomless wells
And lullabys , legends and lies .
And gather ' round ladies , come sit at my feet .
I'll sing about warm sunny skies .
There ' s mermaids and beans and lovin ' machines
In my lullabys , legends and lies .
Lullabys , legends and lies and lies .
lullabys , legends and lies .
I'll sing you a song then I'll shuffle along
With my lullabys , legends and lies .
I may make you wonder , I may make you smile .
I may bring the tears to your eyes ,
But when I disappear , Lord , you'll wish I was here
With more lullabys , legends and lies .
So open the bottle and pass the guitar ,
And look in my warm loving eyes .
I'll take you to places you ain't been before
With my lullabys , legends and lies .
Lullabys , legends and lies and lies .
lullabys , legends and lies .
I'll sing you a song then I'll shuffle along
With my lullabys , legends and lies .

DADDY , WHAT IF
Daddy , what if the sun stopped shining ?
What would happen then ?
If the sun stopped shining , you'd be so surprised
You'd stare at the heavens with wide open eyes ,
And the wind would carry your light to the skies
And the sun would start shining again .
But , Daddy , what if the wind stopped blowing ?
What would happen then ?
If the wind stopped blowing , then the land would be dry ,
And your boat wouldn't sail and , son , your kite couldn't fly ,
And the grass would see your trouble and she'd tell the wind ,
And the wind would start blowing again .
But , Daddy , what if the grass stopped growing ?
What would happen then ?
Well , if the grass stopped growing , you'd probably cry ,
And the ground would be watered by the tears from your eyes ,
And like your love for me , that grass would grow so high .
Yes , the grass would start growing again .
But , Daddy , what if I stopped loving you ?
What would happen then ?
If you stopped loving me , then the grass would stop growing ,
The sun would stop shining and the wind would stop blowing .
So you see , if you wanna keep this old world a ' going ,
You 'd better start loving me again , again . . .
You better start loving me again .
You hear me , Bobby ?
You better start loving me again .
( You love me , Bobby ? Yes )
You better start loving me again .

THE BRIDGE
This bridge will only take you halfway there
To those mysterious lands you long to see :
Through gypsy camps and swiriling Arab fairs
And moonlit wood where unicorns run free .
So come and walk awhile with me and share
The twisting trails and wondrous worlds I've known .
But this bridge will only take you halfway there ,
The last few steps you'll have to take alone .

THE WONDERFUL SOUP STONE
I swear you could taste the chicken and tomatoes
And the noodles and the marrow bone ,
But it really wasn't nothing but some water and potatoes ,
And the wonderful wonderful soup stone .
Hanging from a string in my momma's kitchen
Back in the hard time days ,
Was a littel old stone ' bout the size of an apple ,
It was smooth and worn and gray .
There wasn't much food in my momma's kitchen ,
So whenever things got tight ,
Momma'd boil up some water , put in the stone
And say , " Let's have some soup tonight . "
And I swear you could taste the chicken and tomatoes
And the noodles and the marrow bone ,
But it really wasn't nothing but some water and potatoes ,
And the wonderful wonderful soup stone .
It'd been in the family for a whole lot of years ,
So we knew it was a nourishing thing .
And I remember momma as she stirred it in the water ,
And we could all hear her sing :
" It's a magical stone and as log as we got it
We'll never have a hungry night .
Just add a little love to the wonderful soup stone,
And everything will be all right . "
And I swear we could taste the chicken and tomatoes
And the noodles and the marrow bone ,
But it really wasn't nothing but some water and potatoes ,
And the wonderful wonderful soup stone .
So it carried us all through the darkening days ,
' Till finally the sinshine came .
And the soup stone started into gathering dust ,
But it hung there just the same .
And ever since then , Lord , the food's been plenty
But every now and then I find
That momma in the kitchen with the wonderful soup stone
Drifts across my mind .
And again I can taste the chicken and tomatoes
And the noodles and the marrow bone .
But it really wasn't nothing but some water and potatoes ,
And the wonderful wonderful soup stone.
We were nourished by the wonderful soup stone .
Oh , the wonderful wonderful soup stone.

GOODNIGHT , LITTLE HOUSEPLANT
Goodnight , little houseplant
Asleep on the sill .
I 'll pull the shades
So you don't catch a chill .
Tomorrow we 'll talk
Of the things that we did .
Goodnight , little houseplant . . .
Tucked in your clay pot .
Be careful you don't catch
Huntington 's Rot .
Remember , little houseplant
Stay away from those bees .
I ' ve heard they may carry
A social disease .
Goodnight , little houseplant
Little house plant , good night .
here's your glass of water .
Should I leave on the light ?
Tomorrow in the morning
For breakfast we two
We ' ll have ham and eggs for me
And nitrogen for you .
I love you , little house plant
Who needs women or kids .
A poem
" The Story the Frog Told . . . "
I heard a frog telling
a story to the little purple pond
near a green meadow
when the afternoon was washed
by the faithful rain
The frog said :
" when blue was the sky "
The bird said :
" Let 's go
Let 's float in the sun
Let 's smell , touch and taste .
Let 's find our mates
and remember the names
we used to call . "
a simple poem
A Little Mouse
A little mouse
in
a little house ,
with
two little eyes ,
two little ears ,
and
look around ,
listen sound,
say nothing ,
but
smell everything .

Little Jack Horner
Little Jack Horner
sat in the corner ,
eating his
christmas pie ,
He stuck in his thumb
( Which was full of Germs )
and got
Dysentery and
Ptomaine and
had to be rushed
to the hospital
to get his
stomach pumped out .
And missed going to
camp and had to stay
in the city all
summer and got
hit by a car .
A little bird ,
with gray color ,
stying in a little nest ,
on the top of the tall tree ,
in a little garden.
His nest made of tiny woods .
There are two little eggs ,
in the nest too .
Gray little bird ,
looking up with
open mouth.
What is he waiting for ?
Mother or Food ?

The Lion
I am singing this song from insid of a lion .
And it's very dark in here .
So please excuse the mumbled words
which may not to be too clear .
But , this afternoon by the lion 's cage
I ' m afraid I got too near .
So I 'm singing this song
from inside the lion .
And it's very dark in here . . .
And wet . . .
And dark . . .
And cold . . .
And lonely .

The CLAM
I found a clam beside the sea inside a seedy sack .
I said to the clam,
" Dear sir or ma'am , allow me to call you jack
will you come home with me for a cup of tea ?
and maybe a midnight snack?
for I have some nice tobasco sauce
to pour upon your back ."
I put the clam in s big brass pot.
And I boiled a burbling brew .
And hid green eyes gleamed
And he steamed and steamed.
And he grew . . . and grew . . . and GREW . . .
And I'm feeling rather blue
Cause he's pouring tobasco sauce on my back . . .
And I wonder what he'll do !!
